About the exhibit
The book Scouting in the Baltic Countries: A History in Philately reflects the history of Baltic Scouts. More than 1,000 of the most valuable philatelic items were selected for the book from the author’s personal collection. It includes postage stamps, postmarks, cachets, covers, maximum cards, postcards, revenue stamps, and commemorative philatelic cards.
The principal Scout and Guide jamborees in the Baltic homelands and in exile are described. The volume also includes an illustrated glossary of philatelic terms.
The first postage stamps of independent Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania were issued in 1918. The first official scout-themed postmarks in the Baltic countries appeared in the 1930s, and the first postage-stamp set on this theme was issued in 1938.
