Exhibit tells a philatelic story of one of the first solo non-stop transatlantic flights from North America to Europe, which took place on September 21st, 1935. Lieutenant Felix Waitkus was set to repeat the historic, but ill-fated flight of the two heroic Lithuanian pilots, S. Darius and S. Girenas, with a non-stop solo flight from New York City to Kaunas, Lithuania. Although the pilot was unable to achieve his goal due to the crash landing in Ireland, which severely damaged the airplane. Waitkus became the sixth pilot to win a solitary gamble against the Atlantic. Previous transatlantic solo flights had been completed by several aviation greats, such as Charles Lindbergh, Amelia Earhart, James Mollison, James Mattern, and Wiley Post. Waitkus, however, was the only pilot to successfully cross the Atlantic in 1935. He became the first pilot to cross the ocean solo since Wiley Post in 1933.
